Written by – Prof S. Sastri
In VEDIC ASTROLOGY Drekkana (D-3) based gender indication is a classical astrological method. It shows probability, not certainty. Basic Principle the Drekkana chart represents progeny, siblings, and lineage at a subtle level.
Step-by-Step Method
1. Prepare the Drekkana Chart (D-3)
Cast the D-3 chart from the birth horoscope.
2. Examine the 5th House
In D-3, the 5th house signifies children.
Note the sign, its lord, and planets placed or aspecting.
3. Gender by Sign
Fire and Air signs → Male child indicated
Earth and Water signs → Female child indicated
4. Lord of the 5th House
Sun, Mars, Jupiter influence → Male child
Moon, Venus influence → Female child
Mercury → Decide by conjunctions and aspects
5. Planetary Influence
Dominance of male planets in the 5th house or on its lord → Male child
Dominance of female planets → Female child
6. Navamsa Confirmation If the D-9 chart supports the same indication, the result becomes stronger.Contradiction weakens the result.
Additional Rules:
5th house/ its lord in an –
Odd sign → Male child
Even sign → Female child
If Aspecting Jupiter strengthens male indication. If Aspecting Venus strengthens female indications.
NB:
This is a probabilistic judgment both parents’ horoscopes should be examined and also Dasha and conception time can alter outcomes.
